
Much Shelist Names New Practice Group Leaders and Principals,
Re-elects Four and Adds One to Management Committee
CHICAGO – June 12, 2007 – Chicago-based law firm Much Shelist appointed new leaders for the firm’s Business & Finance and Real Estate practice groups and named three new principals. In addition, David T. Brown (Chair), Don S. Hershman, Mitchell S. Roth and Steven Schwartz were re-elected to the firm’s Management Committee, which is responsible for firm governance and strategic planning. They are joined by newly elected member Steven L. DeGraff, who came to Much Shelist in September, 2006. The Management Committee members will serve for a year-long term beginning June 1, 2007.
Practice Group Leaders
Julie M. Hanusa, elevated from vice chair to chair of the Business & Finance practice group and continuing as head of the Commercial Finance practice, concentrates on commercial finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and health care law. She has extensive experience handling a wide variety of complex transactions on behalf of public and private corporations, financial institutions and individuals. These include multi-million-dollar acquisitions, divestitures and a broad range of other commercial financing transactions. Hanusa also counsels physicians and other health care providers on regulatory issues, contract matters and business structuring. She received a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.A. (with highest distinction) from the University of Iowa.
David A. Alman, named vice chair of the Business & Finance practice group, focuses on corporate law, secured lending, and corporate finance and securities. Alman represents a diverse group of companies in connection with significant business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity investments. He also represents both financial institutions and corporate borrowers in his commercial finance practice. Alman received a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law (magna cum laude) and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Scott L. David, named chair of the Real Estate practice group, advises clients on a full range of commercial real estate matters. He assists clients in the buying and selling of all types of commercial properties, including multi-family apartment buildings and industrial facilities, and in creating entities for the ownership of real property. David has reviewed, negotiated and completed the documentation for hundreds of commercial office, shopping center and industrial lease transactions. He represents banks and other financial institutions in real estate loan transactions, including conventional, construction, permanent and participation mortgage lending. David received a J.D. from Washington University School of Law and a B.A. from Northern Illinois University (cum laude).
Harold S. Dembo, who joined the firm in September, 2006, was named vice chair of the Real Estate practice group. Dembo focuses on the representation of lenders, builders, investors and other parties engaged in the development and management of a wide range of industrial, commercial, residential and mixed-use projects. Dembo also represents institutional lenders in virtually all aspects of commercial real estate and corporate loan transactions. On behalf of property managers, owners and tenants, he negotiates leases and provides counsel with respect to the acquisition, development and financing of real estate projects. A certified public accountant, Dembo also advises clients on a range of business issues. He received a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and a B.S. (Bronze Tablet) from the University of Illinois.
New Principals
L. Daniel Liutikas, elevated from associate to principal in the Business & Finance and Intellectual Property practice groups, handles a wide variety of domestic and international business dealings relating to manufacturing, software, consulting, advertising, technology and e-commerce such as mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures, licensing, outsourcing and technology-focused transactions. He regularly counsels clients on implementing comprehensive intellectual property and intellectual asset management programs. His practice also includes representing clients in the film, television, music, literary publishing, theatre and other entertainment industries. Liutikas received a J.D. (with high honors) from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and an M.B.A from DePaul University.
Adam K. Sacharoff, elevated from associate to principal in the Intellectual Property practice group, provides counsel to a variety of clients on patent, trademark and copyright matters. He has prosecuted patents both in the United States and internationally. His work also includes patent litigation concerning technologies ranging from medical devices to electronic toys, as well as the provision of novelty, invalidity and non-infringement opinions. In addition, Sacharoff works on due diligence-related matters such as product clearances and patent portfolio analyses for potential mergers and acquisitions. He received a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center and a B.S. from Purdue University.
James D. Weier, elevated from of counsel to principal in the Real Estate practice group, has experience in both the legal profession and as a licensed architect working in the construction industry. He blends his knowledge of development and financing, design and construction agreements and claims, accessible design, and sustainable (green) design and construction issues to provide effective, focused counsel for developers, real estate owners, architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers and other clients on a wide range of construction projects. Weier also provides clients with counsel related to buying, selling, financing and developing real estate. He received a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
