AT WORK
James R. Carroll, a Principal in the firm's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group, served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois for 15 years under four separate Attorneys General—including serving as First Assistant Attorney General during the administration of Roland W. Burris. An experienced litigator, Jim focuses his practice on complex litigation at the trial and appellate levels in both the state and federal court systems, as well as government representation. Jim has litigated numerous contested hearings involving temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions.
IN THE PROFESSION
While in the Attorney General's office, Jim supervised all civil litigation and public interest advocacy divisions, including the Public Utilities, Consumer Protection, Charitable Trusts, Antitrust, Civil Rights, General Law, Nursing Home, Veterans Rights and Disability Rights Bureaus. From 1979 to 1981, he was an Assistant State's Attorney in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
Jim was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to be a member of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar and has served as Chairman of the Character and Fitness Committee. He has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of civil appellate law, commercial litigation, and governmental, municipal, lobbying and administrative law (2004-2009). Jim has also been designated an Illinois Super Lawyer (2006-2009), an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state. He is a member of the Executives' Club of Illinois and the Economic Club of Chicago.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Jim serves as Chairman of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners in Glenview, Illinois, and is a director of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago and the Catholic Lawyers Guild.
