As a member of the firm’s Real Estate practice group, Joel E. Resnick brings more than 25 years of experience to clients engaged in all phases of commercial real estate transactions, locally and nationally.
Drawing on his well-honed skills as a strategic negotiator and business counselor, Joel helps clients negotiate and close purchase, sale and financing agreements for retail, office, mixed-use, industrial and residential properties, including apartment and condominium buildings, brownfields and unimproved properties.
Joel served for a number of years as General Counsel for a Chicago-based real estate developer, for which he negotiated and closed contracts for the acquisition of land for new developments, negotiated space and ground leases with major national retail tenants, and developed and documented a range of site-development and reciprocal-easement agreements. He has also provided counsel on joint-venture and partnership structuring and other business relationships, helped secure construction and permanent financing for shopping centers and retail office buildings, and negotiated asset sales.
IN THE PROFESSION
Joel is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law) and the Chicago Bar Association (Real Property Law Committee).
Joel has published a number of articles in legal and industry journals, covering a variety of topics, including commercial real estate transactions and Title VIII litigation. While in law school, he served as a staff member and Associate Editor of the Urban Law Annual.
