Mitchell S. Roth is an accomplished attorney with a unique blend of business, financial and legal acumen. He advises a wide range of clients, including entrepreneurs, closely held businesses and public companies involved in manufacturing, investment banking, financial services, real estate development, technology and other industries. Mitchell also serves as outside general counsel to many of the firm's largest clients.
Drawing on his in-depth understanding of the many factors that contribute to business success, Mitchell provides far-reaching, coordinated and highly effective counsel to his clients. He helps negotiate and structure joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, syndications, commercial lending transactions, management buyouts, financings, venture capital transactions and private placements, among other areas of service. He also offers guidance on tax matters relating to corporate and succession planning.
Complementing his legal practice, Mitchell has significant experience as an entrepreneur and serves as an officer, director and owner of a successful national home warranty company. A certified public accountant, he also worked in the tax department of KPMG Peat Marwick and in the audit department of Arthur Andersen’s London office prior to beginning his legal practice.
Mitchell currently serves on the firm's Management Committee, chairs the Lateral Task Force and has been an important contributor to the expansion of the client base and service offerings at Much Shelist.
IN THE PROFESSION
Mitchell is a regular speaker on corporate and tax issues at conferences and seminars sponsored by industry and legal organizations. He is also the author of published articles on corporate and tax law topics.
A member of the American, Illinois State and Chicago Bar Associations, Mitchell chaired the Tax Law Committee of the CBA’s Young Lawyers Division. He is also a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization, the Chicago Business Forum, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois Certified Public Accountants Society. In 2002, Mitchell was selected by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company as one of the "40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch."
IN THE COMMUNITY
Mitchell has long been a supporter of civic and charitable causes in metropolitan Chicago and beyond. Through his family’s private foundation, he has provided direct funding for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, as well as programs for the developmentally disabled and summer camps for underprivileged children.
Together with four other members of the Management Committee, all graduates of the University of Illinois, Mitchell recently created the Much Shelist Scholarships. These merit-based financial grants will be awarded to two University of Illinois College of Business students annually, beginning in the fall of 2006.
