AT WORK

A bankruptcy attorney for 28 of his 32 years in practice, Norman B. Newman has been a firm Principal since 1988, and previously served as Chair of the Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors' Rights practice group. Norm has represented debtors, creditors, creditors' committees and bankruptcy trustees in all phases of proceedings under the Bankruptcy Code.

Norm has extensive experience in handling reorganizations, in-court and out-of-court loan workouts, creditor compositions, and liquidations and assignments for the benefit of creditors. He has served as bankruptcy trustee in a number of significant cases and is a member of the Private Panel of Trustees for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

IN THE PROFESSION

Norm is the author of several articles and is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and creditors' rights topics for a variety of business and professional groups. He is also a leader in professional organizations, having chaired the Chicago Bar Association's Bankruptcies and Reorganization Committee and the U.S. Trustee Advisory Council.

Norm is President of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, and a member of the American and Illinois State Bar Associations, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Commercial Law League of America and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees.

In 2005, Norm was designated an Illinois Super Lawyer, an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state. He has also been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the area of bankruptcy and workout law (2007-2008).

IN THE COMMUNITY

Norm is a past Chair of the board of directors of the Buffalo Grove Unit of the American Cancer Society and a volunteer with the Northwest Suburban Jewish Community Center.
