AT WORK
Scott L. David is Chair of the Real Estate group and a past member of the firm's Management Committee. Scott advises clients in a full range of commercial real estate matters. He assists clients in buying and selling all types of commercial properties, including multi-family apartment buildings and industrial facilities, and in creating entities for the ownership of real property.
Scott has structured numerous, sophisticated forward and reverse 1031 tax-deferred exchanges and tenancy in common arrangements. He has reviewed, negotiated and completed the documentation for hundreds of commercial office, shopping center and industrial lease transactions. He represents banks and other financial institutions in real estate loan transactions, including conventional, construction, permanent and participation mortgage lending. A member of the firm's Financial Crisis Response Team, he also provides advice regarding workouts and debt restructuring.
Scott also represents developers of residential and commercial projects in the Chicago area, and he has represented commercial property owners in obtaining real estate tax incentives from the Cook County Assessor.
IN THE PROFESSION
Scott speaks regularly to a variety of groups on the topic of tax-deferred exchanges. He has also authored articles for Real Estate Chicago. While in law school, he was Associate Editor of the Urban Law Annual.
Scott is a member of the Chicago and American Bar Associations. He serves on the CBA's Real Property Law and Real Estate Taxation Committees. In 2005, he was designated an Illinois Super Lawyer, an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state. Scott has also been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of commercial real estate and real estate tax (2005-2008).
IN THE COMMUNITY
Scott is a member of the Museum and Education Committee of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center.
