Steven H. Blumenthal is an accomplished lawyer with over 20 years of experience in the full range of commercial real estate and corporate financing matters, including real estate and corporate asset acquisitions and dispositions, condominiums and other types of development, and financing and debt restructuring.
Steve negotiates and structures real estate and business acquisitions and dispositions, financing transactions, commercial leases, and real estate and commercial loan documents from both borrower and lender perspectives. He also has substantial experience representing both lenders and borrowers in structuring and negotiating loan modification and workout agreements for real estate loans, loan portfolios and operating businesses.
Steve has assisted clients in commercial and bankruptcy litigation matters, and has structured and negotiated settlement agreements and related documentation.
Steve recently helped an investment group acquire two separate food-processing companies for a combined purchase price of approximately $24 million. As part of the acquisition, he negotiated the senior loan documents, mezzanine financing documents and intercreditor agreements. In another significant transaction, Steve represented a development group in acquiring a number of land parcels for a mixed-use development in excess of 1,000,000 square feet.
IN THE PROFESSION
Steve is a member of the Chicago, Illinois and American Bar Associations, as well as the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association. He has also been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of commercial real estate and real estate finance (2007-2008). While in law school, Steve served as Notes and Comments Editor for the Urban Law Annual 1977-78.

Before joining Much Shelist in 1995, Steve was a principal at a Chicago-area firm where he concentrated on real estate and corporate financing matters. He is also a partner, owner and active participant in a closely held real estate venture involving diverse real estate assets, including apartments, warehouse facilities and office buildings.
Steve is admitted to practice in Illinois.
