Scott R. Fradin draws on his significant experience as both an attorney and a licensed architect to draft and negotiate complex design and construction agreements on behalf of owners, architects, engineers and contractors—with the goal of minimizing the likelihood of litigation. He also represents clients involved in a wide range of construction-related matters, including breach of contract, delay and disruption claims, design- and construction-defect claims, and mechanics lien disputes.

Scott has represented owners and contractors in numerous multi-million-dollar delay and disruption disputes across the country. He has represented architects and engineers in design-defect cases involving public works projects, residential developments consisting of hundreds of units, and other commercial and institutional facilities. Scott has also represented engineers, architects, general contractors and other professionals in fee disputes.

IN THE PROFESSION

Scott is a member of the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys, the American Bar Association Construction Forum, the Chicago Bar Association (where he was the past Chair of the Construction Law and Mechanics Lien Subcommittee) and the Illinois State Bar Association's Section on Construction Law. He is a regular contributor to legal and industry journals in the areas of construction law. Scott is also a frequent speaker and lecturer on the topic of construction law. Most recently, he authored two chapters for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education on negotiating architectural agreements and liability issues related to LEED. Scott is the co-author of "Challenging the Finality of an Executed Change Order," Aspen Publishers, 2005; "Owner Generated Agreements," The Architect's Handbook of Professional Practice—14th Ed., American Institute of Architects, 2008; "Representing Architects—Pre-Contract Considerations," Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, 2009; and "LEED and Green Construction," Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, 2009. He also authored "Properly Drafted Construction Contracts Can Limit Development Risks," Real Estate Finance, Aspen Publishers, 2007.

Scott has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the area of construction law (2008-2012).
