AT WORK

Steven A. Stender has practiced law in Illinois for more than 30 years and has represented many corporate and real estate clients in a broad range of issues and transactions. Steve's clients range from real estate investment trusts to large banks and other financial institutions to real estate, restaurant and manufacturing companies. He advises his clients in matters involving their financial structures, operating policies and long-range strategic planning. Steve was the Chair of the firm's Real Estate practice group from 2004 to 2007. He also is a member of the firm's Financial Crisis Response Team and regularly consults with clients who are experiencing financial distress or working out troubled loans.

IN THE PROFESSION

Steve is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association (Real Property Law Committee). He also is a member of the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association.

He is the author of two publications of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education: Annexations and Annexation Agreements, and Fire Protection Districts.

Steve has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of commercial real estate and real estate finance (2003-2012). He has also been designated an Illinois Super Lawyer (2005-2012), an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Steve is currently on the Water Committee of the Jewish National Fund. He has also served on the Executive Board of the American Youth Soccer Organization, and is a former Commissioner and past President of the Glencoe Park District.

Prior to joining Much Shelist in 1991, Steve was a partner at a Chicago firm, where he concentrated on real estate and corporate financing matters. He is also a partner and active participant in a closely held real estate company that owns and manages apartments and office buildings.
