Community Threads Thrift Store Receives Pro Bono Support from Much Shelist Attorneys

Several Much Shelist attorneys are providing ongoing pro bono legal support to Community Threads, which operates an upscale nonprofit thrift store in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. James M. Kunick, Chair of the firm's Intellectual Property & Technology group, serves on the Board of Directors and provides general legal counsel on day-to-day contract and operational issues. Additionally, Jim is assisting founder and President Elizabeth Maring and the organization's outside counsel with its 501(c)(3) nonprofit application to the Internal Revenue Service. The firm has also advised Community Threads on intellectual property issues (including applying for a trademark for the name) and negotiated the commercial lease for its thrift store in Buffalo Grove.

Proceeds from the thrift store—which sells new and used clothing, accessories, books, toys, furniture, housewares and other items—are used to provide financial support for Breakthrough Urban Ministries, Saint Peter Lutheran Church & School, the Orchard Evangelical Free Church, LYDIA, Caris Pregnancy Counseling and Resources, and Youth for Christ. In fact, all profits go directly toward quality education for needy students, shelter for the abused and homeless, addiction recovery programs and other critical services provided by these charitable grant recipients.

Since its opening in September 2011, Community Threads has received coverage in the Daily Herald and other local media outlets. For more information, visit www.communitythreads.org.
