Scott J. Smith Joins Much Shelist, Attorney Bolsters Firm's Existing Strength in Construction Law
CHICAGO—June 16, 2009—Chicago-based law firm Much Shelist announced the addition of Scott J. Smith as Special Counsel in the Construction Law practice. Prior to joining Much Shelist, Smith practiced for nearly 10 years at D'Ancona & Pflaum LLC, which merged with the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw in 2003. Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade as a practicing structural engineer at Consoer Townsend Envirodyne Engineers (now known as AECOM USA Inc.)
With an emphasis on design and construction-defect disputes and mechanics liens, Smith regularly represents individuals, publicly traded corporations and privately held businesses in real estate and construction-related litigation involving breach of contract, personal injury and wrongful death, condominium disputes, lien and foreclosure proceedings, delay claims, indemnification, construction errors, actions for specific performance, public and private mechanics liens, surety performance, and a broad range of commercial, premises and products liability. He also represents clients in commercial disputes such as business tort, intellectual property infringement, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and consumer and deceptive practices.
Smith holds a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
