Monica Macklin and Gregg Simon Honored with 2017 David T. Brown Community Service Award

Much Shelist is proud to announce that Monica Macklin and Gregg Simon are the 2017 recipients of the David T. Brown Community Service Award. Macklin, a legal secretary in the Real Estate group, and Simon, chair of the Estate Planning & Wealth Transfer group, were recognized for their extraordinary service to the Chicago community.

Every year, one staff member and one attorney receive the award, which was created to honor firm co-chairman David T. Brown and his dedication to social responsibility. Much Shelist also makes a monetary donation to each recipient's charitable organization of choice.

Macklin was recognized for her work with the UrHarmoni Community Resource Center in West Garfield Park. She serves as president and executive director of the organization, which provides families with various human services programs, such as transitional housing, workforce development, a food pantry, and health and fitness activities.

Simon was honored for his longtime involvement with the International Music Foundation (IMF), where he is a past president and current board member. The foundation presents free concerts and music education experiences in Chicago. This year, Simon assisted in the merger of IMF and Rush Hour Concerts, which allows the organizations to expand performance opportunities. He also spearheaded the search and hire of a new executive director. Having achieved his final goals, Simon will soon step down from the board of directors after 25 years of service.

"We are incredibly proud of Monica and Gregg for upholding the firm's longstanding tradition of social responsibility," said Brown. "The greater Chicago community has benefited tremendously from their advocacy and service."
