Much Shelist Guides Jewish Child & Family Services in Multi-Property Real Estate Sale

The firm's Real Estate practice group recently represented Jewish Child & Family Services (JCFS) in connection with its sale of several residential properties no longer needed for its Child Welfare program services. JCFS is a social service agency that offers people of all backgrounds assistance with life transitions, mental health, developmental/intellectual disability and basic human needs.

This pro bono transaction is part of Much Shelist's continuing effort to support JCFS’s mission. The firm represented the organization in closing the sale of four properties after negotiating the associated contracts. "There is a shift occurring in the social services community currently. Kids formerly living in these supervised homes are being moved into family-based foster care, considered a more appropriate mode of care for children and youth who are wards of the State. The dollars generated by the sale of the properties can now be used to fund other beneficial programs," says Much Shelist attorney Neil B. Posner, who serves on the JCFS Board of Directors and acts as the organization’s outside general counsel.

The Much Shelist transaction team included attorney Patrick A. Brennan and paralegals Janiece Waters, Maribeth Robinson, and Sara Hasan. The deals closed in early June 2017. The firm also assists JCFS on a pro bono basis with corporate governance matters, including advising on the fiduciary duties of board members, drafting board resolutions, reviewing bylaws and navigating relationships with governmental agencies.
